Helping keep British Motorcycles on the road for over 30 years - established 1977

1969 Royal Enfield Interceptor

Sold 09/14/2023

I’ll turn 80 in October and I sense it’s time to work my way out of motorcycling.

I’m selling my beautiful RE. Bought it a few years back as a project bike and have done my best to restore and at the same time build a cafe style bike. The speedometer shows around 10,000 miles and works. To the best of my knowledge the bike was sold in Iowa and that’s where I found it.

I had the engine completely rebuilt with most of the engine work done by D&D Cycles in Pensacola Florida. They have an excellent reputation for building British bikes. It has a specially made oil seal retainer to ensure the oil seal doesn’t fail. The transmission has not been touched and works well.

The frame was stripped and power coated locally. All the aluminum that could be reached has been polished. I still have the steel rims, need rechroming, and original spokes but had aluminum ribbed rims spoked up with stainless spokes and the tires are brand new. I have the original seat pan, cover and foam but apparently mice chewed through the material while the bike was in storage. I found a nice Triumph seat sold as one of their accessories and it fits and look nice.

Starting in the back, I have the original taillight license plate bracket but needs repair so I replaced it with an after market light. The rear fender is original with no additional holes drilled and is in nice shape. I bought a pair of aftermarket shocks and have the originals. I replaced the battery holder coil mount with a fabricated aluminum plate that gives it a nice look. I have the original mount but not the battery cover. I have the original ignition coils but replaced them with a single dual lead coil that mounts on the frame under the tank. The original tank rusted out near the back of the tank so I purchased an aftermarket tank (India)that fits and looks good. Still looking for someone to repair the original. Installed a new center stand.

I installed a Boyer ignition system and high output podtronics battery eliminator, still have original zener diode and points. Starts nicely. I also installed an oil pressure gauge on top of the oil filter cover. The exhaust is all new along with many parts ordered from Hirchcocks in England.

At the front of the bike the front fork tubes are new and fork internals rebuilt and slightly modified to accept Norton boots and reveal the fork legs. I don’t have any of the triple clamp housing covers or the headlights ears. The headlight is attached to aftermarket ears and is original and in nice shape. The handlebars are clubman type and all the controls are stock items. The front fender is in excellent shape.

I have a box of original parts and it wouldn’t take much to restore to original.

I’d like to get $9,000. There are probably more things I’ve done but have forgotten. I have many pictures from the start to the finish of the project and will answer all emails.
